Frequently asked questions

Everything about the line, the sticker, and where your address goes.

Why does my number go up sometimes?

Your place can occasionally go up, not just down. Generate Kindness is 22 years old and has been hacked and rebuilt more than once, which has disrupted the line over the years. Once in a while, someone who requested a sticker long ago finds their way back on their own — we never email that old list — and when their new request matches our records, they get their long-overdue spot back ahead of newer requests. It’s rare and serendipitous. Your number reflects everyone ahead of you, so it can tick up when that happens. The line still empties every month as we ship — and if you’d rather not wait, you can jump it any time with a sticker pack or a donation.

Is the sticker really free?

Free, with an asterisk: printing and postage cost real money. We send one to anyone who asks, as long as there’s kindness in the tank — funded by donations, sticker packs, and merch. Every dollar in and out is public.

What is Generate Kindness?

A 22-year-old project that mails a free sticker to anyone who asks for one. People stick it somewhere, someone else notices and asks for their own, and the cycle keeps going. Donations, sticker packs, and merch keep the stickers funded.

How long is the wait?

It depends on how many people are ahead of you and how many stickers we ship that month. Once you request one, you get a live place-in-line you can check any time — it counts down as we ship.

How do I skip the line?

A sticker pack or a donation moves you to the front right away — and helps fund stickers for everyone still waiting. You can also take the sticker digital today and share it without waiting for the mail.

What do you do with my mailing address?

We use it to mail your sticker — nothing else. It’s never sold or shared. On the public map, requests only ever show up at the city level, never your exact address.
